Spring Seminar Events May 24th -18th

Librarians - it has been too long!  Winter blahs turned quickly to upcoming spring events, travel and more.  As friendly faces in the Library, it is so great when you pass along our Seminar flyers or registrations from the media wall behind the desk as well as downloadable from our web site.  Additionally, we are displaying the Fort Vancouver Tapestry in the Annex for 5 days and we will have a CCGS Exhibit entitled "Finding Your Grandmother's Stories" displayed in the Academy on Saturday and Sunday morning May 26 & 27).  An Event Timeline with Locations will be ready for you this week.  Stay tuned.  Marcia

Seeking a Family Story

Dear Librarians –We are seeking Family Stories and no doubt there are a great many member stories in our group especially during these eras:  The Great Migration era (1620-1640); Native American life; Steam Engine Industrial Era (1870-1950); Wagon Trail Migration (1750-1870); Ports of Entry (18th-19th C.); Descendants  of the Colonies of New France or Viceroyalty of New Spain (16th-17th C.)  Do consider adding your ancestor's story to our Connection Project.

This Connection Project will be featured during our Spring Seminar on Memorial Weekend and the project seeks to document a family member’s connection to the above eras via written story, photos, artifacts or published books.  If you have a story to share, let me know.  Marcia

Pictured below are my 2 great grandparents and their lives have consumed my attention lately as it appears that Marie Louise Chartier Fittinger's uncle or great uncle was a Canadian voyageur.  Possibly a Hudson Bay Company connection? There is certainly more to learn in uncovering the depths of this family story.

Webinars - Brian's Set up Team Wants You

Big Screen Viewing at CCGS
Dear Librarians - Do you enjoy viewing our Big Screen Webinar presentations?  If not consider these sweet reasons to do so:

  1. Bring your coffee, chat a bit, and be comfy.
  2. Take notes on your laptop or notebook - WiFi too!
  3. Meet up with other like-minded family historians.
  4. Hear national genealogical experts without leaving town!
Join the Webinar team, expand your genealogical knowledge and skills.  Brian seeks a few who would join him regularly welcoming Webinar viewers.  Equipment setup is easy for screen, projector and our computer.  Marcia

Wow - Dolly Does It Big

Dear Librarians, today Dolly Merrick, our wonderous window dresser, installed a most worthy display entitled Are You a Mayflower Descendant?  Further, she invited every window visitor to walk right into the library and uncover a possible Mayflower ancestor!  For most visitors new to genealogical search, reaching back 10 or 11 generations or more may mean several library visits.  But Lethene and Sharon suggest 2 CCGS resources to start:

  1.  Use Readerware (our library catalog) searching Mayflower with "keyword and" then
  2.  Go online to our American Ancestors member connection, then Search via Databases drop-down.
Dolly requests our for the future display window entitled Grandmothers -  if you have a vintage original photo of a grandmother (or greatgrandmother or gg or ggg mother), please allow Dolly to borrow it to produce an enlargement.
Please let Dolly know if you have a contribution.   Enjoy the new window display!  Best, Marcia
