Librarian Mid-Week Update March 27

Hello Librarians -

Computers Startup Order - First start up the North Wall computer, wait about 5 minutes, then start up the other three computers.  If you open Readerware allow it a few minutes to load.  Prior to leaving for the day, shut down all computers in reverse order with North Wall shut down last.

Tech Saturdays will continue on the 2nd Saturday of the month (April 13th from 10 to 3pm).  Bring computer questions and get answers all day!
There have been necessary changes in our computer network  - come in and get the latest on our Library computers.

Vertical Files -  Volunteers requested to place various family surname documents in file envelopes and then sort alphabetically prior to entry into the Readerware catalog.  Sign up with Sharon T.

Librarian Mid-Week Update March 21

Hello Librarians -

Trash Gate Key - Emptying the library trash now requires a key.  It's hanging on the West display wall - look for a bright pink label!  Please note you cannot remove the key until the lock is again properly locked.

Backroom Projects - Our research and preservation projects need your help.  Vertical Files: The process for these many documents include separating into file envelopes, labeling, and alphabetizing before they are entered into our Readerware catalog.  Local Obituaries:  21st century technology demands a shift in how we have previously preserved obituaries.  So gathering information is the priority and getting the answers require talking to the folks with first-hand knowledge.   Please call or email Director Sharon Thiesmeyer to participate.

Rolodex needed for a library organizing project - if one is cluttering your desk do consider donating it to a new desk!  Either 3 x 5 inch or 4 x 6 card holding size will work great.  Thanks, Marcia

Librarian Mid-Week Update for March 13

Hello Librarians -

10 am Thursday March 14th in the library, we welcome Joyce Atwater, US Census representative who will answer    questions regarding becoming a US Census taker for the 2020 census.
10 am Saturday March 23rd in the library, we begin Tech Saturdays.  Member Stephen Young volunteered to assist with computer technical questions.  Steve's long Intel career has given him a font of useful information to share!
11 am Fridays in the library:  Librarian skills; where to find information and how to use it.  The variety and large number of information sheets are handy once you know where to find them.
Librarian Blue Book - Come in to pick up your Blue Book to build a personal Librarian Resource note book.  Check the updated Genealogical Sources One Page List - a handy reminder list to break a brick wall. Some info sheets cannot be published on this public forum for privacy issues, but watch the Blog pages to add to your notebook.   Best, Marcia

Librarian Mid-Week Update for March 6th

Hello Librarians - Much to share today!

Computers Coming: The Front Desk computer replacement is on order (although possibly traveling via dog sled from the snowy Midwest).  Thanks for temporarily calculating Daily Cash Sheet on actual paper!  More forms are in the right-hand Librarian desk drawer.

Spring Classes Begin:  Very attentive students attended Elsie's Tuesday beginning genealogy class.  The door prizes given were well-received so we will continue saying thanks to every class attendee (3 tickets each).  The class schedule is posted on the website, in the Sunday email, in the newsletter, on Facebook and on the wall shelf behind the Librarian desk.  Yes, we do take reservations via telephone (the notebook is on bookshelf behind the Librarian desk).

Spring Seminar is Coming:  Save Saturday May 4th!  We are actively seeking Silent Auction donations.  Sherry Lambert got a $75 gift card from our neighbors Awesome Flowers.  Big Wow factor donation - thanks Sherry.  When accepting a donation - please write up a donation sheet so we can properly thank all our benefactors.

2020 US Census Hiring:  Do you want be part of history?  The Census is hiring here in Clark County!  We have all the information in the Library.

Thanks, Marcia
